It’s been about a month since I last posted anything, but I have some great news to share with you all.
So, if you remember, we are on a quest to earn enough money to buy land to be able to play Monopoly in real life. Sadly, that achievement looks a bit tougher than expected, plus land prices are way too high. What we did instead is set ourselves a new goal, to be able to earn enough to for initial costs of this website.
Thus began the infamous search to make money online so as to reach my target. I first thought of making my own products (websites to be precise) and generate advert money. The development phase took me a lot of time and because of such low attention span of mine, I kept losing interest in one idea and started jumping to another. I tried 7 different things in a matter of 2 months.
Nothing worked out for me. I had promised myself that I’ll make at least a thousand rupees by the end of my holidays but net total was zero! I got scared and started exploring other avenues which might help me start up quickly and allow me to get some instant money!
There were plenty of options. I could make youtube videos and earn some advertising money, I could’ve sold stuff on eBay, I could’ve run ads on this site (something which I tried but without success). Nothing worked. Out of nowhere, I saw a website called Fiverr. I lets you provide some service to other people for five dollars, out of which, one dollar goes to Fiverr and rest four go in your pocket. Plus, they paid you using PayPal so that was a great thing as I had already setup my PayPal account months ago.
I immediately signed up for it and started wondering what services could I provide which would interest me, be helpful to others and could be accomplished in 1 day or less. After going out of ideas, the first thing I thought about was my strengths, Java! Thus came my first “gig”, “I will work on your Java assignment for $5“.
Excited about it, I waited, and waited, and waited. But no one seemed interested in getting there homework done for 5 dollars. As days passed by, I forgot about my gig and started looking for other stuff on the internet. Near the end of holidays (on around 24th of July), I received a mail from Fiverr. Some guy had ordered a gig of mine. I got a mini orgasm after reading that mail. Shit, it felt soo great. I have some work on my hands, and that work was only and only because of my initiatives (and Fiverr, of course!).
I immediately went over to Fiverr and saw what that had posted. The questions were easy, you had to implement some methods. Completed work in 4 hours and delivered it immediately. The guy was very impressed and gave me a good rating and he turned out to be a great first customer ordering again and again. He ordered 7 times in all making me earn 7 * 4 = $28. Plus, the questions he gave me later were challenging and difficult. So, my experience, I practiced my skills and also got paid for it. After that first guy, there came some other potential customers but only one more guy ordered from me and he also gave me a good rating!
Thus, I have finally started earning and hope to build upon my initial success. I plan to work upon my projects and also focus on Fiverr to recover the money I have put in for this website. I might also be able to earn enough to fund my next project, or might not be able to generate any sales in the coming month! Possibilities are too many.
Fiverr usually takes 15 days to process fees and its available for withdrawal after that (which was today!). I withdrew $16 to my PayPal account today and am feeling ecstatic about it. I know I might not seem so excited, but I haven’t stopping jumping up and down, like literally!!
So, July 2012, Earned $32 (And I am very very very proud about it). Total money earned up till now, $32(Let’s hope this number increases in the coming month).
P.S. – If you are going to make an account on Fiverr to put up your own gigs, I have some advices for you, but the biggest of them all is, be patient! If you have put up a gig which could be of some use to others, people will order it! It usually takes one-one and a half month for your first order. After you have been rated as a genuine seller by some buyer, sales will start coming soon. Just keep calm, and carry on. :D
Enough for today I guess, and sorry for such a late post, have been busy with so much stuff, couldn’t get time to do anything!
