After having messed with some PHP and frameworks, I realized something. I don’t like the front-end stuff, I just love the back-end part! For example, when I was working on the current project on my mind, I just did not like doing the CSS and HTML as much as I loved to interact with the databases and bring information inside or send it back to database.
Now, as people know, I love the android platform. I’ve been working on it since past one year or so and have been able to get whatever functionality I wished but the apps weren’t successful due to many reasons. First of all, the “Just In” section of Android Market was removed by Google which practically was the source of downloads for all the small developers out there. Secondly, I was at a very novice stage and my apps pretty much sucked visually and were not appealing much as they rarely connected to internet. The framework was also very buggy but since then, Google has added many new features to be able to use it as easily as possible. And the biggest reason was not everyone had the Android devices. I just had some 10 people with me who I knew would download the app. This small number was also why I couldn’t make my app jump to popularity and in the trending portion. The downloads were just not enough. But this is not the problem with websites, because anyone can visit your site by clicking the link. They just need a computer and they’re good to go!
Now, to create great looking dynamic websites, I’d still need to learn many new things like AJAX and JavaScript which would take too much time and yet I won’t be that good with them. So what am I going to do now? I’ll create an app!
Making app would be much more easier for me now that I have ample of experience with it and I am also quite comfortable with the server side scripting after practicing for some time with PHP. This way, I just need to create a back-end on server, just like my favorite app, Instagram, and then data from server would be used by the app!
What do you think? Is it the correct way to go about my project or rather I should stick to making a website?
